Ruth Bader Ginsburg was given a little piece of advice on her wedding day by her mother in law who said: “In every good marriage, it helps sometimes to be a little deaf.” In further explaining her quote #RBG said this: “When a thoughtless or unkind word is spoken, best to tune it out. Reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.” And, she is correct.
Sometimes the words are unkind, sometimes they’re just thoughtless and sometimes they’re hurtful even when spoken by another innocently. And, “reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one’s ability to persuade.” If you can turn a slightly deaf ear, and even speak back to the highest part of the one who has hurt you something magic happens.
I do a lot of work with top level women leaders. My context for empowering women’s voices in leadership and everywhere else is this: Anywhere in the world you measure, on any measure that matters to human beings… wherever women are doing better, everything is doing better. The environment, kids, the economy, health, even men are doing better wherever women are doing better.Â
